Psalm 38

BibleGateway.com Psalm 38

Our sin is oppressive. As Christians when we sin we are disciplined like sons. The hand of God is heavy. Still you punish your sons to instill character in them. God punishes his sons to put his character in them. We are feeble and utterly crushed (v. 8). When are foot slips it also give our enemies a chance to pounce upon us. Defame our faith. God is not far during these times. Even when it seems impossible to live through what God is doing in my life, I know when I look at him it is his love that will strengthen me and his mercy that will keep me from being put out of his presence forever.

Some may say, God punished Jesus to take the place for our sin. It is true, our sin is paid for but our consequences for actions on this earth are not removed. If you steal, you will be punished. God has forgiven you and adopted you as a son. Given you an inheritance beyond all comprehension. That is why it is so ridiculous to still be caught up in sin when you are a child of God. It still happens because we look to the world around us to supply what only God can. We look for satisfaction in the wrong places. We look for relationship in the wrong way. Make Christ your satisfaction. Make Christ your first love! Make Christ Lord of all your life! When you ignore him and do what you want you put yourself on the throne of God. He won't stand for it. Be glad for his mercy. Thankful for his grace. Do not cheapen the faith he has established. Forsake the way of the world. Treasure Jesus above all.
